1.What is EMDR therapy?

EMDRIA has the following definition on their website explaining EMDR therapy:

“EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences (Maxfield, 2019). EMDR therapy has even been shown to be superior to Prozac in trauma treatment (Van der Kolk et al., 2007). Shapiro and Forrest (2016) share that more than 7 million people have been treated successfully by 110,000 therapists in 130 countries since 2016. “ (Source: https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/

2- How much is therapy?

We have different price points being a group practice.

Currently, our mental health counseling residents who are in grad school for mental health counseling meet with individuals for $55-$65 a session. We offer a limited number of sliding scale openings at a lower rate, and you can ask about this option. The regular ongoing rate is $55 per session in Tennessee and $65 per session in New York.

Our MHC-LP second year therapists in New York’s rates are $150 for a 45-50 minute session (CPT code 90834). First Year rates are $125 per session (CPT Code 90834).

Sadie (group practice owner) has limited slots for clients, and mainly provides consultation and supervision. Her rate is $200 for a 60 minute session (CPT Code 90837).

We do have limited sliding scale openings that we maintain, and you can always reach out and ask about these options as well.

3. Do you offer in person counseling?

No, at this time we are a fully Telehealth practice in both New York and Tennessee. We are able to meet with clients throughout both states using Telehealth HIPAA compliant platform.

4. What is the difference in coaching versus counseling?

Mental Health Counseling is based in diagnosis and the disease model, in which insurance companies utilize this method to pay for services. Our therapists are licensed in New York and Tennessee to see clients throughout both states depending on their licensure. If an individual were wanting to seek reimbursement through their health insurance, they would have to utilize counseling, which also ties each client to a diagnosis that is part of their health record.

We understand some individuals do not want to be labeled with a DSM disorder, or may not be coming in for mental health treatment, but rather would like a more holistic approach to healing that focuses from a non-disease model perspective. We can offer this throughout the United States under coaching, not counseling. If at any point though, our practitioners feel that an individual does need a more mental health focus in their treatment and one approach is recommended over the other, we may refer a person out to a provider who can give them that other level of treatment. Coaching is not licensure based and therefore not state regulated. Coaching is not eligible for insurance reimbusement.

If you have any more questions about counseling versus coaching, we encourage you to speak to one of our staff, if you have an assigned provider already or reach out to our office at: 332-282-5900 or office@sproutingrootsmhc.com

5. How do I cancel/ change my appointment?

If you are a current client, or have an appointment scheduled, access our client portal below to edit/change your appointment. You can also give us a call 332-282-5900

Please note that we do have a 24 hour policy, and cancellations within 24 hours are subject to charge the full session fee.

6. DO YOU ACCEPT MY INSURANCE?

In New York currently our therapists are IN Network (INN) with Cigna insurance. If you have a different insurance other then Cigna, you can call our office at 332-282-5900 and we can call your insurance company to explore if you have what is called Out of Network Coverage. This means you would pay for all sessions with our practice up front, we would provide what is called a Superbill that you submit to your insurance and then they reimburse at their agreed upon rate to you, the client directly. Sprouting Roots Mental Health Counseling P.C. nor any of its staff is responsible for guaranteeing reimbursement from your insurance company. Insurance companies all have their own guidelines and deductibles, reimbursement rates may change at any time. We cannot guarantee reimbursement, but only provide the Superbill in order to seek that from your insurance.

Our office staff works regularly with the insurance, give us a call today and we can help break everything down for you, as well as answer any questions you have.
