Ghalia Mahran

Meet Ghalia Mahran, MHC-LP, CCTP, C-DBT

For so many people, feeling stressed, anxious, and overwhelmed has become the norm. It is common to struggle with life from time to time, but struggling with constant negative thoughts, negative beliefs about yourself, anxiety, and depression does not have to be your norm. One of my favorite parts of being a therapist is helping women and young adults feel empowered and secure in themselves, their decision-making skills, and their ability to create and shape the life they want to live. Reaching out is an important first step in your journey to empowerment, security, and breaking old habits that may no longer be serving you.
I work with individuals and couples via telehealth throughout New York State. Although our practice is based in New York City, we are able to meet with clients throughout New York for therapy. I have experience working with teens up through older adults.
I encourage you to take the first step towards creating the life and future you want for yourself. I will always meet you where you are and work with you to develop a plan to get you on track to living the life you deserve!

Fun Fact: I love to travel and have had the privilege of exploring countries in South America, the Caribbean, North America, Africa, and Europe.

GHALIA’S APPROACH TO WORKING WITH CLIENTS:

My approach to therapy is a holistic one, that takes into consideration your spirituality, culture, religion, interests, struggles, traumas and everything else that makes you uniquely you. I utilize mindfulness-based psychosomatic therapies such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), hypnotherapy, mindfulness based CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy). Additionally, using a trauma informed lens, I am passionate about understanding the core root of the problem over time, and hopefully help to identify new healthier ways of living.

PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION:

Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling: Wake Forest University -GPA: 3.8

Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy: Hartwick College – Accelerated degree, achieved in three years

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE:

Ghalia started out her internship experience working with Sprouting Roots Counseling and has stayed on as a clinical staff with us. Ghalia has been able to work with a handful of her clients long term, helping them get to the root of their trauma. She works with clients throughout NYC, and New York State via telehealth therapy.
At Sprouting Roots Counseling, Ghalia has gained experience in applying a holistic approach to working with clients. She has incorporated assessment, treatment planning, training, diagnosis, and treatment into her work with her caseload. Ghalia has been described by her clients as warm yet able to challenge when needed as well. Ghalia has gained experience in EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic and Parts work techniques, Psychodynamic therapy and is currently expanding her knowledge in Hypnotherapy. Being a practice specializing in trauma, often the focus is on getting to the root cause of the underlying symptoms versus just putting a bandaid on the current situation.
Prior to Sprouting Roots Counseling, Ghalia Mahran worked with the inmate population and gained lots of experience in the justice system.
Ghalia Mahran continues to expand upon her counseling knowledge through ongoing training in the field, and hopes to integrate more holistic practices into her work with clients.
